Vaccination and Prevention

Vaccination and Prevention

Vaccinations are not mandatory to enter the country, although it is advisable to follow the recommendations of the health authorities of the country of origin.

We recommend the vaccine against hepatitis A, typhoid, rabies and Japanese encephalitis (provided that there are no contraindications, to be evaluated case by case).

Mosquitoes

It is necessary to bring a good mosquito repellent and apply it as needed.

Another way to avoid unpleasant bites is to wear light cotton clothing that covers the body to the maximum.

The repellent should always be applied after sun protection, and not vice versa, because sunscreen can have substances that attract certain insects. Filariasis and Dengue fever are possible risks, especially for those who go to rural areas. They are due to insect bites.

Sun protection

It is recommended to use sun protection during the entire tour.

First aid kit

In Sri Lanka you will easily find pharmacies throughout the country.

Even so, it is very convenient to prepare a small kit with analgesics and material for the treatment of small wounds such as gauze and bandages.

Obviously we must add the medication that every traveler is taking in their case.

Aspirin or Paracetamol, anti-burn cream, sunglasses, sunscreen, anti-diarrhea tablets, tablets for water disinfection, tablets for car sickness-seasickness, sachets for oral rehydration solutions, mosquito repellents, insecticide in powder, local antihistamines, plasters, gauze, bandages, disposable syringes, disinfectant solution, decongestant eye drops.

Also, if you are diabetic or have other problems, do not forget your usual therapy.

For contact lenses, put the solution in the kit.
If you have vision problems, bring a pair of spare glasses.
If you sleep in a tent, bring a mosquito net.
Finally it is good to have a scissors, a tweezer, a thermometer, a tourniquet.

water

Always drink bottled water.

Taking into account the fact that we are in a tropical country, it is advisable to drink frequently to avoid possible dehydration.

Be careful even with ice.

Clothing

Daily                                                                                                                                                                                                                          We recommend the use of light cotton clothing and better if it is light colors.

Both shoes and clothes must be comfortable and appropriate for this type of trip.

It is also advisable to use an umbrella to protect from both rain and sun.

In the region of the mountains                                                                                                                                                                               A jacket or sweater with long sleeves, pants and a rain jacket are recommended if you go to visit the mountainous region (Nuwara Eliya, Haputale, Bandarawela and Ella) because it can be cold.

In the temples
To enter the temples it is necessary to wear trousers and skirts (below the knee) with the shoulders covered. The dress must be decent, neither too low-cut nor too tight.

It is mandatory to remove shoes in sacred places, but it is permitted and, in fact, the use of socks is highly recommended.

Bring a pair of socks to walk barefoot in temples and holy places.

This rule is of general conformity, ie for men and women.
