The island of Taprobane

The island of Taprobane is located 100 meters from the beach of Weligama, in southern Sri Lanka.

Taprobane, originally called “Galduwa” (Rock Island “in Sinhalese), is a private island with a villa built in 1920 by the Count of Mauny, an eccentric Englishman who made this island his home.

The trees surrounding the house and the crystal clear waters of Weligama Bay make this island a special place for visitors.

The island is currently a Hotel.

The Palladio style house is on the highest point of the 2 acre island with sweeping views of the bay and fishing village.

The house itself is planned around a central hexagonal hall and surrounded by large verandahs and terraces, it is a fantasy experience in outdoor living; perfect for honeymooners, families and anyone wanting to experience island life.
